Pivoting to the virtual has been crucial given the circumstances we have been living in.
However, simply because virtual has been a viable alternative during these times doesn’t mean that it can replace face-to-face events completely. Not only are face-to-face events fun to go to, but they provide countless opportunities to connect with others in a way that is otherwise not possible online.
The Franchise Expo at The International Centre in Toronto on September 11 and 12 is officially the first opportunity for TaxAssist Accountants Canada to see you in person. While we are all geared up for the event, we wanted to make sure you’re prepared as well.
The ideal way to find a franchise that’s the right fit for you financially and professionally is to visit a franchise expo and get to know the prospective options. Most people attend these expos without any goal and preparation. May we suggest there’s a better and more productive way of approaching this.hat’s a mistake you don’t want to make.
Here are the tips to make the most out of your time at The Franchise Expo.
- Set a goal
Before visiting the Expo, set goals for yourself. It could be “I will come back with the information of at least 2 franchises I want to consider” or “ I will educate myself on what the franchisor is looking for.” Your goals will guide your actions at the Expo better rather than just aimlessly strolling in the arena with absolutely no plan in mind. - Prepare a list of questions to ask
A serious prospect would be eager enough to prepare a set of questions to ask the franchisors. Why? Because the Expo is your one chance to meet the franchisor and/or its representatives face-to-face. Here is a list of questions you can ask:
What is included in the franchise package?
- What kind of training and support will be provided?
- Do I get ongoing marketing support?
- What makes you different from your competitors?
- Do I get exclusive territory rights?
- What kind of franchisee are you looking for?
- Do your research
The Franchise Expo will have its franchise directory. Make sure you go through it and list all the franchises you would want to visit at the Expo. Once you have your list, find out as much as you can about each franchise on your list. The more you know, the better prepared you’ll be to explore issues that may concern you. Visit franchise websites, request information, and find out if the company is interested in opening units in your area of choice. - Make time for the free seminars and workshops
The Franchise expo will offer various free seminars and workshops that will help you polish your business skills and update you about the franchising industry. With so many opportunities around, you will be tempted to skip these sessions but make sure you squeeze in time to attend some. - Stay focused
No matter how well in advance you plan your time, with the sheer number of franchises represented at a trade show, it’s highly likely you may get distracted unless you focus. Stick to your plan, and do not get carried away by the freebies available. - Schedule follow-up meetings
There’s not enough time to get everything you need from a franchisor at a franchise trade show. If you’re interested in pursuing an opportunity further, request a meeting later that day or over the phone after the event. This way, you can focus on the conversation and have the time to get into the details without feeling rushed.
Whether it’s your first time visiting an expo or not, following these tips will ensure that you make the best use of your time there.
Next steps? Go home, read through all the literature, follow up with the franchise models that interested you. In 6-8 months, you might be the proud owner of a franchise.
Don’t forget to visit our booth at the Expo. We will be more than delighted to answer all your questions about owning a franchise and why TaxAssist Accountants should be your preferred choice.
